Johnny Manziel. If you know anything about football you know what this name means, both good and bad. An absolute nightmare to both opposing teams and PR teams.
In college Manziel was a force to be reckoned with. In just two seasons in college he was able to pass for 7820 yards and RUSH, yes RUSH for 2169. To say Manziel was the greatest QB those 2012, 2013 seasons would be an understatement. He went on to make history his 2012 season by becoming the first freshman ever to win the Heisman trophy award which is an award honored to the most outstanding player in college football. After his 2013 season, Manziel entered the draft where he was drafted by the Cleveland browns 22nd overall. You would think that Johnny football would have a pretty promising career in the NFL right? WRONG. His promising career has been marred over by legal woes off the field.
Here is a brief timeline so to speak of some of the incidents that have gone on in Manziel’s career.
After being drafted, Manziel’s partying started, or I guess you could say it never really ended from college and on January 28th, he entered a drug and alcohol rehab facility. The Browns organization fully backed Manziel. Once out of rehab Johnny did a little personal PR and held a press conference where he apologized to the browns organization and the fans.
Around 5 months after getting out of rehab Manziel and his girlfriend were pulled over and she accused Manziel of hitting her multiple times and not allowing her to leave the car. This is where things really go downhill for Mr. Manziel. In the following months Manziel’s case went to grand jury.
It was clear that Manziel was becoming a loose cannon and a distraction to the team. The browns did all they could do but felt they had to release Johnny. A month later his agent dropped him as well.
After all of this Manziel went off the deep end. Pictures were coming out almost weekly of Johnny partying it up anywhere from Mexico to Vegas, it was obvious from these pictures that he was not healthy and needed help. To make matters worse he was posting videos of him self clearly intoxicated and on drugs on social media for the world to see.
As of late Johnny Manziel has been taking care of his personal PR, attempting to make a return to the NFL, and better himself off the field. He has been sober for over 6 months now and is using social media outlets to show his personal growth both on the field and off the field.
